چکیده

In this paper, we focus on error estimates to smooth solutions of semi-discrete discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods with quadrature rules for scalar conservation laws. The main techniques we use are energy estimate and Taylor expansion first introduced by Zhang and Shu in [24]. We show that, with P k (piecewise polynomials of degree k) finite elements in 1D problems, if the quadrature over elements is exact for polynomials of degree (2k), error estimates of O(h) are obtained for general monotone fluxes, and optimal estimates of O(h) are obtained for upwind fluxes. For multidimensional problems, if in addition quadrature over edges is exact for polynomials of degree (2k + 1), error estimates of O(h) are obtained for general monotone fluxes, and O(h) are obtained for monotone and sufficiently smooth numerical fluxes. Numerical results validate our analysis.

Entropy stable high order discontinuous Galerkin methods with suitable quadrature rules for hyperbolic conservation laws

It is well known that semi-discrete high order discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods satisfy cell entropy inequalities for the square entropy for both scalar conservation laws and symmetric hyperbolic systems, in any space dimension and for any triangulations [39, 36]. However, this property holds only for the square entropy and the integrations in the DG methods must be exact. It is significantl...

Convergence of the Space-Time Expansion Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Scalar Conservation Laws

In this paper we analyse a class of fully discrete Space-Time Expansion Discontinuous-Galerkin methods for scalar conservation laws. This method has been introduced in [11, 17, 18] for a speci c expansion relying on the Cauchy-Kovaleskaya technique. We introduce a general concept of admissible expansions which in particular allows us to prove an error estimate for smooth solutions. The result a...

Stability Analysis and A Priori Error Estimates of the Third Order Explicit Runge-Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Scalar Conservation Laws

In this paper we present the analysis for the Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) method to solve scalar conservation laws, where the time discretization is the third order explicit total variation diminishing Runge–Kutta (TVDRK3) method. We use an energy technique to present the L-norm stability for scalar linear conservation laws, and obtain a priori error estimates for smooth solutions...

The comparison of two high-order semi-discrete central schemes for solving hyperbolic conservation laws

This work presents two high-order, semi-discrete, central-upwind schemes for computing approximate solutions of 1D systems of conservation laws. We propose a central weighted essentially non-oscillatory (CWENO) reconstruction, also we apply a fourth-order reconstruction proposed by Peer et al., and afterwards, we combine these reconstructions with a semi-discrete central-upwind numerical flux ...

Numerical smoothness and error analysis for RKDG on the scalar nonlinear conservation laws

The new concept of numerical smoothness is applied to the RKDG (Runge-Kutta/Discontinuous Galerkin) methods for scalar nonlinear conservations laws. The main result is an a posteriori error estimate for the RKDG methods of arbitrary order in space and time, with optimal convergence rate. In this paper, the case of smooth solutions is the focus point. However, the error analysis framework is pre...
